It does matter what skin type you are, but the more important thing is to always pay attention to your skin’s needs. Many of us don’t pay attention to what our skin is telling us, myself included. It took me a while to understand that my skin and body were always giving me little signals when something was wrong and before it got pretty messy.
Over time I have learned I need to have certain products and certain ingredients always within my reach.
I want to introduce you to my must-have that everyone’s skin will love.
Toner
A toner that you can layer and hydrate the skin with.
Layering a toner or watery essence can save you a lot of face cream and works best for dehydrated skin. Look out for toners with ingredients that bring your skin more benefits, such as Niacinamide, Glycerin, and Hyaluronic acid. I also like rice, green tea, and ginseng.
Centella Asiatica
Centella Asiatica, or Cica, has been used for centuries in Oriental medicine as it has been used for wound healing, burns, and for skin conditions. It is a lovely all-rounder for sensitive skin types and can be beneficial for everyone else as well.
I prefer serums and essences with Centella Asiatica as they are more watery and therefore can penetrate further into the skin, plus I can lock them with a face cream.
Sunscreen
A sunscreen with at least SPF30 for daily use, however, applies, in this case, more is better. Perhaps some might think that it is a matter of course, but it is by far not for everyone. I myself only started wearing sunscreen about a year ago, on a daily basis, and even when I work at home in the home office. The UVA and UVB rays are proven to be the biggest culprits of skin aging.
Find a sunscreen you enjoy and use it daily to protect your skin and keep looking younger for longer. And make sure to reapply during the day to keep your skin safe.
In addition, if you use Vitamin C, BHA/AHA, or Retinol/Retinal, sunscreen is an absolute MUST.
Without sunscreen, you’re doing more harm to your skin than help. Should you wear Vitamin C without topping it off with sunscreen, you can also directly throw it into the bin. Vitamin C oxidizes very quickly and then also no longer helps.
2-Step-Cleasing
2-Step-Cleanse – by this, I mean two different facial cleansers, one oil-based and the other water-based. Don’t worry, I don’t mean that you should use cleansing oil twice a day and then cleansing gel. If you wear sunscreen and makeup daily, you should remove it in the evening with an oil-based cleanser and then clean the skin of any remaining dirt with the help of a water-based cleanser.
This gives you a clean base for all other products and is half the battle if you are dealing with clogged pores and blemishes.
By the way, I clean my skin mostly only with lukewarm water or a very gentle cleansing gel in the mornings, as I want to avoid any unnecessary irritation to the skin.
Holy-3
One of the more essential points, especially if you have a weakened protective skin barrier, is the use of the three main ingredients: ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol. Those are naturally present in the skin and help protect the skin from epidermal water loss. So if you want to strengthen and protect the skin, look for a product that contains all three ingredients.
For Sure, there is more that you can consider or use.
I have only summarised the points that I believe can help everyone. Of course, in the end, you have to decide what works best for your skin.
